The design evokes the form of the Māori meeting hall. The pattern on the draw fronts are inspired by the belts ‘Taniko’ worn on traditional Māori grass skirts ‘Piupiu’. The carcass is made in solid Maple. The parquetry pattern is made from bird’s eye maple, red pigmented birds eye maple and ebony laid onto a Maple front. The handles have maple tops and wenge bottoms (giving a shadow illusion) with Paua centres. The dovetailed draw sides and base are made in cedar to give a lovely smell on opening the draw.
